Tips on How to Sew Pajama Pants?

Pajama pants were designed to be comfortable and loose fitting pajama style pants that are ideal for sleepovers and naps in the evening. Pajama pants have been popularized by the 1960’s generation and have become a staple of American fashion. They are a great way to keep warm and look fashionable while you sleep. Many pajama pants also double as shorts, making them even more versatile.

A few factors need to be taken into consideration when deciding whether a pair of pajama pants is the right choice for you. When choosing pajama pants, there are a few things to consider before heading out the door to purchase them. You need to know how to measure your waist so you can get the right size. The following are steps to take in finding the right pajama pants and making sure you get all the safety features you want.

Step one – measure your waist. You will need the dimensions of your waist to determine the size of the pants. If you don’t have a tape measure, you can use an adhesive measuring tape to get a tight measurement. Take note of this measurement and buy a pair of pajamas with the right fit. If you buy a pair of pajamas that are too big, they won’t stay up all night and the elasticity will be lost.

Step nine – measure the length of your legs. If possible, sit down so you can easily measure from your toes to your head. This gives you the perfect length for your pajama pants. You will need to make sure the legs of the pants meet at a comfortable length after you determine this measurement.

Step ten – measure around your waist. Use the tape measure to get a precise measurement. After you have your exact measurement, fold one end of your pajama pants in half. Use two buttonholes to make small openings on both sides. These little openings will allow you to find the pocket for your liner or comforter.

Step eleven – turn the pajama pants inside out. You will probably want to sew the pocket and elastic casing to the underside of the fabric. If you’re not good at this, use two buttonholes to overlap one another slightly. Then sew the two buttonholes together. Use a server to close the pocket.

Step twelve – serge the seams. Place a piece of straight line fabric, such as a plain white or light tan colored cotton, inside your existing pajama pants pockets. Fold the fabric over so that you can lay it flat. Roll the fabric up into a ball before beginning to sew.

Step thirteen – Slide down the long edge of the pajama pants. This will help keep the bottom edges of your pants lined up properly. Once the bottom edge is lined up properly, turn up one end of the long edge. This will form a slight curve on the bottom edge of your pants. Now sew the bottom edge of the pajama pants to the straight line. Then fold over the rest of the fabric.

Step fourteen – Use a zipper foot stitch to sew down both sides of the bottom edge of pajama pants. This creates a double fold. The first fold is created by sewing in a straight line from the waistline of one side of the fabric to the other side of the fabric. Once the second fold is created, fold the fabric over so that it is exactly opposite the first fold. Then stitch down the two sides of the double fold.

Step fifteen – Find a pattern that you like and that is suitable for the thickness of fabric that you are working with. You will be stitching across the bottom half of the pajama pants. On one side, you will be stitching a solid color background, such as a tan, into the fabric. Once this is done, continue to the other side of the fabric. On this side, the pattern is going to ask you to either crochet a plain color pattern or a pattern that is decorated. This is where it gets a little tricky.

The final step is to start sewing the pattern onto your pajama pants. To do this, lay the shirt out flat and then turn it inside out so that you can see all the sides. Next, take a piece of heavy cardboard and line it up with the front of your pj’s and then carefully tape the fabric onto the cardboard. That’s it!
